Rawhide Mallet

Rawhide Mallet

For your veg tan leathers this is a nice tool - it's essentially a wood burner that's set to the right temperature range for leather. Comes with a chisel point so you can try to create a better looking blue marlin than Charlie did, and the point unscrews so you can put in one of the other 5 points that come with the iron:  heart, square, star, circle, and diamond. You can see how the star shape branded into the leather in the bottom left picture. Brander also comes with a folding stand and it has a handy on/off switch in the cord. Heats up to working temp in about 5 minutes. Use caution - this thing will burn you.  Extra brands available below Leather Branding Iron with 6 tips  $18, USA postage includedRivet Setting Tool for use with post rivets or tubular rivets  (not for use with brass two-part rapid rivets - scroll down a bit for that tool). Punch a hole in the leather, put the post rivet through, putthe pin end of this tool in the throat of the rivet, give it a good whack with the mallet, and the end of the rivet splits into six flower petal sort of things, holds the leather quite well.  These setting tools are hardened steel and have a long life span - to make them last you MUST use a nylon or rawhide mallet -  and a cutting board/pounding pad.  $15 each, USA shipping included. Rivet Setter for Post or Tubular Rivets -
