Cyber security is the spotlight IT
career at U.S.Customs and Border Protection (CBP).Recently the
department hosted job fairs with the Department of Homeland Security and
the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to attract people with cyber
security experience,says Katherine Coffman,deputy assistant
commissioner for the CBP office of HR management.U.S.Customs and Border Protection is one of the largest and most
complex components of the Department of Homeland Security.Its priority
mission is to keep terrorists and their weapons out of the U.S.It also
secures and facilitates trade and travel,while enforcing hundreds of
U.S.regulations including immigration and drug laws.CBP employment has swelled by 22.8 percent since 2007.The agency
anticipates needing 300 IT security recruits in the coming months.However,"At this point in time we don't anticipate overall IT growth,so most of the jobs will be attrition backfills,"
