Commissioner-Sheriff George N.Longworth began his law enforcement career with the Westchester County Department of Public Safety in 198,taking a position as a special police officer on a summer seasonal basis.The following year,he was appointed from a civil service eligible list to a full-time position with the Dobbs Ferry Police Department.In his tenure with the department, Longworth amassed a wide variety of experience in all aspects of policing,from mediating neighborhood disputes to actively pursuing homicide,drug and counter-terrorism investigations.Following ten years of patrol,investigatory and supervisory experience,Commissioner Longworth was appointed to the Dobbs Ferry Police Deparment’s top post in 1992,making him the youngest person (age 32) to be named chief of a Westchester County police department.
